A World Without Pallets

While watching HBO’s The Leftovers this past Sunday, I started thinking of what would affect me significantly if it one day just poofed and disappeared.

The answer was simple. The answer was pallets. And even though the answer was simple, the implications of how pallets would affect the world if they just vanished wouldn’t be.

Grant it, it wouldn’t be enough to fill an HBO drama (True Pallet Detective, anyone?), but the effects would be sprawling nonetheless. Continue reading

Taking Pallet Hacks To The Next Level

Pallet © Tomáš Moravec, 2008 from Tomáš Moravec on Vimeo.

We previously published an article where we described some…”alternative” uses for wooden pallets.

But thanks to Slovakian artist Tomas Moravec, we now realize that we’re like Jon Snow when it comes to awesome pallet hacks.

Moravec noticed that a Europallet just happens to fit perfectly across the tram tracks that run through Bratislava, Slovakia. So he did what anyone would do upon making that discovery.

He put freaking wheels on a pallet and rode it down the street.

Never in any of our lives did we think that someone could look so majestic while standing on top of a pallet.

By the way, if you want to make your day a million times better, watch this gif while listening to this song.

Plastic Pallets vs. CHEP

On June 18, NPR’s Planet Money did a story on CHEP and their “better blue pallets” that are reinventing the pallet industry.

They wondered whether anyone could build a better pallet. Like the mousetrap and the paperclip, it seemed that the design was flawless and could not improve anymore.

They briefly mentioned plastic pallets at the end of the podcast, saying that a company that creates plastic pallets with RFID tracking went bankrupt. As if one company represented the industry as a whole.

Not only that, but this was later corrected as the company was sold to investors after it went into bankruptcy protection and is currently still in business.

Whatever innovative designs appear to change the pallet industry, the design does not dictate material used to build it.  Don’t let the pitchforks, torches, and crazy mob make you think otherwise. Continue reading

The Three Best Uses For Wooden Pallets

The war rages on between proponents of wood pallets and those for plastic pallets over the benefits of their championed choice.

We at One Way Solutions obviously tend to lean towards the plastic side when it comes to logistics, but there is one area where even we have to admit that wood pallets are superior.

They sure are great for building stuff.

Whether building homes for the displaced and impoverished or sprucing up your home and backyard, wooden pallets seem to be taking the world by storm if you count the countless DIY forums posting projects and pictures of how to recycle and reuse them instead of using them for what they were meant for.

Here are some examples of what wooden pallets are actually good for. Continue reading
